Bohol - week 2 in the Philipines -
1. Thrilling Adventure: Bumpy Mountain Bike Ride to Chocolate Hills!
Our journey to Batuan, renowned for its breathtaking Chocolate Hills, was nothing short of an adventure! The road was a wild rollercoaster, so bumpy that it had my stomach doing somersaults! We took a scenic route through charming local and rural areas, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the surroundings.
Just as we arrived, a heavy downpour surprised us, but instead of dampening our spirits, it turned into a perfect excuse to relax with delicious drinks and savory snacks! Despite the challenging ride, the thrill of the experience made it all worthwhile in the end.
2.Chocolat hills
Look at this scenery! Apparently there are over 1,700 chocolate hills here and also some myths…There are 3 stories and my favorite one is about the giant guy's teardrops. Once upon a time, there was a giant guy who fell in love with a local girl. They happily lived together but the girls passed away so he cried. The hill is his teardrops. How romantic is that? I almost cried,
This stunning plant, known as Cheilocostus or Crepe-ginger, hails from the vibrant regions of South Asia, stretching all the way from India to China and even to Queensland! It's particularly abundant in the breathtaking Greater Sunda Islands of Indonesia. -Wikipedia-
3. Inambakan Falls in Catigbian
The enchanting sounds of the waterfall beckoned us to this secret gem, a hidden local paradise waiting to be discovered. Though we could hear the roar of the water, there were no signs pointing us in the right direction. Then, out of the blue, we spotted a narrow, winding path that seemed to lead to the source. With hearts racing, we ventured forth, navigating through a muddy trail surrounded by lush greenery. Our excitement peaked as we stumbled upon a magnificent, large-scale waterfall cascading before us! Just as we were taking in the breathtaking view, locals began to arrive, adding to the magic of this unforgettable experience.
This dense forest is mainly made up of white and red mahogany which lined up the road create such a beautiful scene! We snapped a few quick photos together but decided to move on since there were so many other tourists taking pictures and it was getting a bit crowded.
5.Hanging Bridge Napo
The Hanging Bridge of Napo is located on the outskirts of the island. I experienced a rush of adrenaline while crossing this bridge, because I am sensitive to heights or suffer from vertigo. The design of the bridge includes gaps in the decking, offering a view of the rivers below, which adds to the thrill of the experience…
Let me tell you, this place boasts the most stunning landscape in all of Bohol! The sandstone rock formations are something truly unique—unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else. We didn’t even see any trekking signs, but we managed to find our way around and had such a blast! Hihihi!
There was a TV show featured on this place. My partner was really keen to check it out, and I was totally inspired to join. We ordered some drinks and snacks, and let me tell you, they were out of this world! My absolute favorite was the 100% cacao drink (it's in the photo on the right, second from the top). It had a slightly bitter start but turned delightfully mild by the end. And those banana fritters. Absolutely delicious! The staff was super friendly and really knowledgeable, which made our visit even more enjoyable. It was definitely worth the trip!
8. Sea of clouds
11.Food of this week
We jumped out of bed at 4 AM, full of anticipation, and set off for our adventure! Unfortunately, we encountered a few clouds and mists hovering over the valleys, so it wasn't exactly like those stunning images you'd find on Google. But let me tell you, the view was absolutely breathtaking and truly unforgettable! The beauty of the landscape took our breath away, making it a morning we'll cherish forever!
We got a flat tire… It probably happened during the returned journey of the sea of clouds. My partner noticed it first but couldn’t see anything on it. Then I felt something wrong that the rear tire was slippy when turning.
Luckily we found the repair shop around the corner so asked him to fix it. We found t got punctured by a peg… oh dear… Anyway, all done and good to go! The repairer was very generous and helpful. Thank you so much!
10. Lovely meeting up in Sandingan Island
What a wonderful afternoon to spend time with local people! We happened to find the beach at the back of the community center on Sandingan Island. One of the lady walked up to me with smile and said hi to me while I was sitting on the rock on my own as looking at my partner swimming in the ocean. Then we started to talk and she told me this was family and friend gathering. Everyone was so generous, friendly and offered us drinks and foods too. We enjoyed our chit-chat, sang songs and laungage exchange! Nice to meet you all!
Chicken soup, grilled fish, stir flied veggied, Chop suey, were the dishes we mainly had this week. Oh and the peanuts call “Happy nuts” is our favorite snack with beer.
Halo halo that is popular sweet in Philipines as the local girl recommended. This ice cream is made from local potato, Ube. I loved this natural sweetness. Absolutely yum!
The friendly owner and spotless room with private bathroom. It is located in Batuan where there is chocolate Hills and it was so convenient to go everywhere. We saw fireflies flying around the treesbat night and chickens crowing early in the morning. This experience tured us to be early birds! Healthy! Definitely recommend this place! 😃
The view from the balcony was super! The room was clean and friendly helpful staff! The breakfast was so delicious and fresh. I can’t recommend enough this accommodation. The shower and toilet were shared but almost no one during our stay so they were almost private use!
Geckos, frogs, water buffalos and fireflies! The last time I saw them was when I was 8 or 10 yo! I had never met water buffalos until I saw them here.
