Krabi - week 1 in Thailand -

We chose Krabi as a transit point to other cities in Thailand because of its affordable flight tickets and its convenience for travelling onwards. When we were deciding on our next destination, Bangkok was initially at the top of our list. However, the flight prices from Singapore were unbelievably high, so we felt it wasn’t worth rushing there. Instead, we decided to come to Krabi.

Krabi is a small harbour town with a laid-back atmosphere where time seems to pass slowly. I reckon one reason for this feeling is that everything there — the roads, the houses, and the overall layout — feels much more spacious than in other places, which creates a relaxed, chilled-out vibe. Many backpackers stay in Krabi or use it as a base to travel by boat to nearby islands, making it an incredibly accessible spot for moving on to the next destination.

The porridge became our go-to breakfast, and what truly amazed us was the colour of the tea — blue! We hadn’t even ordered it; the shop owner simply served it to us.

The flavour was mild and refreshing, easy to drink, and it paired perfectly with our meals. We also enjoyed seafood, papaya salad, Tom Yum soup, and more — every dish was absolutely delicious.

Another “wow” moment on the street was seeing plastic bags filled with takeaway food neatly lined up at the stalls. I had seen tea and coffee served that way in Malaysia, but never full meals, so it really caught my attention.
