Singapore 2

We returned to Singapore before heading north due to an urgent matter, so we took it easy rather than atively exploring the city, as having already done so on a previous visit. our main stops were Little India, Fort Canning Reservoir and Orchard Road, along with a few unexpected discoveries and happenings during our stay.

It was raining almost every day, so we tried to stick to covered streets and sheltered places to avoid getting soaked. Little India was absolutely fascinating, and we wandered through the markets, grabbing snacks while waiting for the rain to ease. When I asked a staff member some questions while ordering food, he kept gently shaking his head. He didn’t look upset or particularly smiley—just wobbling his head! I was completely puzzled at first, but later I learned that this is Indian body language that can mean “yes” or “I’m listening,” showing acknowledgment depending on the context. What an interesting interaction! I never expected to experience Indian-style communication in Singapore.

The market had two storeys: the ground floor was filled with food courts and grocery shops, while the first floor was packed with stalls selling traditional Indian dresses. They were so gorgeous and sparkling that they immediately caught my eye! We almost got lost because the place felt like a maze.

Fort Canning Reservoir.
It's a big place to tell us history....

Back alley of Orchard Road.
We enjoyed browsing through a couple of shopping centres along this road and came across an unusual “queue,” like the one shown in the photo below. It wasn’t a line for shops or anything like that—people were simply sitting there to hang out, eating and drinking together.

The fan at Hawker's market.
I reckon the diameter was over three metres—absolutely huge! These fans play an essential role in semi-outdoor food courts to keep things cool; otherwise, we’d be completely boiled alive.

Unexpected delivery at 3am.

The doorbell rang at around 3 a.m., jolting us awake, but we didn’t answer since it was the middle of the night. The next morning, we found bags with a Burger King combo hanging on our door handle—clearly, a delivery driver had the wrong room number! Oh dear…

Then, unbelievably, the doorbell rang again the following night at almost the same time. Seriously?! This time there was no food left at our door, but it had to be the same delivery guy making the exact same mistake. Please do your job properly—and never disturb us again!
